@Morwenn I guess a had a few good lecturers when I studied. If you want something to gauge my level of intolerance, watch that talk of some Italian called Gigante about FP in C++ from last year's MeetingC++. I considered this quite awful.

@fredoverflow Oh, we have switched years ago. For tests on Windows, that is. Unfortunately, our hardware vendor is behind updating to VxWorks7 (was scheduled for Q4/15, still not arrived), and updating the C++ compiler is something they have mentioned as "maybe after that, but no promise".

You could create a function pointer to the static function, then call it using that pointer. Then again, why make a function static to begin with if you want to violate the static part in it. Like you can violate a static variable with the pointer, so can you a function. In both cases, that is...

@Morwenn I think this is mostly a thing because this guy (Jens Weller, he is also the one behind MeetingC++) is lobbying so hard for it. And, of course, isocpp.org is not unhappy about this and he gets support from them.
