I had a prepaid "credit card", but it would charge 3€ each month...from itself. so if I wanted to keep 50€ on it so I could order crap from amazon.co.uk, I'd have to put 3€ back on it each month. too silly for me :p

Credit cards are very useful to have in case of emergency though.

I suddenly found myself with no job and nowhere to live, credit card stopped me from becoming homeless and I managed to find a new job quick enough thanks to it.

Well, over here you just give you account details and the money is transferred, regardless of the bank they use. The bank is literally the only place I've heard of such things happening.
