@Zoidberg We use 0xDEADBEEF and other similar "funny mnemonic" dummy addresses in OS design (applicable to other things too) to signalize areas of memory that have just been allocated (but not initialized). Its significance is that of a comedic value, which is usually easily detectable by humans because brains like to remember and spot stupid shit.
