If you wonder how to dispose of old HDs so that they aren't readable, here's how to do it using Thermite. The text is in German, but you get the idea from the pictures. (You do not get much if the safety warnings, though, so I translate them for you: Thermite heats to 23kC and thus melts through pretty much everything. Beware!)

that really depends on where std::rank is used.

for example, it's quite possible that for other types, functionality can be provided through ADL, and rank is only needed for prim arrays.

a simple example would be begin/end, it's not stupid that you don't need std::begin(std::array<T, N>).
