Anyway while the concept of not caring about sexuality, religion, or race seems good in my head and probably most people's head, it isn't exactly like that in reality. Many institutions have things that are exclusive to some groups of people (e.g. women scholarships, specific insurance, worker's groups, etc etc) and that's annoying. If we're striving for actual equality we shouldn't be giving crutches to groups of people just because of their race, gender, sexuality, etc.

The K&R Book is so strange. I read it about 4 years ago and thought I had understood it completely because it was so short and simple. Now that I'm re-reading it, I see I didn't get like 90% of the content. I thought I had understood it, but I actually didn't.

Also, why is the rule is different for arrays? If say, I have something like an int my_array[10] and I initialize only like the first 7 elements, the last three will be initialized to zero for external, static and automatic (i.e usual) variables.

Perhaps the rule for arrays is different to facilitate string handling? Since strings are null-terminated?
