Q: Why is $n^2-\frac{n^2}{2} =\frac{n^2}{2}$?

Could someone please expand on how to get from $\displaystyle n^2-\frac{n^2}{2}$ to $\dfrac{n^2}{2}$? I can't seem to wrap my head around that.

The language on the first question is flawed

To cut a board into 2 pieces, it requires a single cut. So 1 cut = 10 minutes, to do 3 pieces it requires 2 cuts so 2 cuts = 20 minutes.
