@LucDanton Yeah, but I've been thinking, and a simple zip_iterator by itself can't really deal with that, it'd have to know it's being compared to an end iterator.

It serializes the iterator and then invokes WinZIP to compress it.

Feel free to browse my implementation. But there might as well be an bool is_end_iterator;, yes. That's been a recurring motif.

Oh yeah, the distance_to is dumb. It takes the first iterator, and does it - other.it, assuming random access.

Assuming is fine, it's a random-access operation in the first place.

huh, in my performance tests, inserting 1638 into random positions in a vector starting with 16384 elements is taking 0 ticks, and has one reallocation. one reallocation is expected, 0 ticks definitely less so. Then again, inserting in the front is only 187 ticks.

@Zoidberg more specifically, I'm confused as to why inserts at random positions in a vector is so much faster than inserting at the beginning. I'd expect twice as fast, but even when my push_front test takes 3.132 seconds, the push_random test is <0.016 seconds.
