now add in a concept of island ownership / chain ownership

then layer in guilds / factions

construction of defenses / buildings / walls

then things like aircraft

"a reasonably good crafting system" at the very least

oh and all these islands are procedurally generated

I'm also toying with the idea of biome based generations

so you might get a volcanic island, then one that holds a lake of water

and another that's basically just sand

im thinking that gathering key resources to build / maintain your own territory would be a key part of the gameplay

your problem is that you're only using 4 out of the 12 column model

you want col-md-6 on each I think
