Is Build.VERSION.SDK_INT constant expression? This is the question I posted, which has been tagged duplicate, but I do not think it is. Please take a look at it.

@Shree The request was actually valid. It was discussed here and here. The URRS says that it's not valid, because the request would not be valid for the second answer linked in the request. However, the request really isn't asking for the second answer to be deleted.

The URRS doesn't have the code to accurately determine when additional linked posts are not part of the request (would require natural language parsing, to an extent), except for cv-pls requests where a dup-target is linked, and a linked question is actually closed as a duplicate with that question as one of the dup-targets. Other than that special case, the scripts assume that all liked posts are part of the request.

Do Question-flags for closure ever get declined? I mean do they just age away if no one puts a close vote, but instead vote to leave open on the Question?

Why use regex for a list of items? It would make sense to use regex to handle variants of the same word.

@SotiriosDelimanolis Once a question is to the point where there's been a close and a reopen, we normally view that as a conflict between users. As such, we generally feel its open/close state shouldn't be dealt with in requests here. Taking it to meta is a better option.

I should also note that you've previously submitted a cv-pls request for this question for this question. We don't permit re-requesting once a request has been handled. Actually, we only permit re-requesting a single time, if the request has been moved into the graveyard without the request being fulfilled. [We do also permit resubmitting a request which was erroneous for some reason, but an RO should be pinged to trash the original request.]

Ironically, your earlier request hadn't previously been archived, probably because the Archiver script wasn't run during the 2 hours 40 minutes the question was closed.

@Dharman It can, sometimes, be reasonable, depending on what's being done. In this case, the user is wanting to replace the content, so a regex may make it easier for them, but, given that what they actually have is a list of words, I'd probably agree that having what the programmer sees be an actual list is probably better, even if they then programmatically convert that to a regex. OTOH, they clearly aren't that familiar with regexes, so it's quite possible it's the wrong choice for them.

@Scratte If you feel your answer was of reasonable quality and the question isn't something that should be closed, you can bring it to Meta, or just custom mod-flag and explain. If you don't want to do either of those, you can take comfort in knowing that the question ban algorithm considers deleting a question immediately after getting an answer to be the worst thing a user can do. When that happens, it gives the user a heavy push towards a question ban.

@Makyen Interesting. What's the odd that the flag will be declined in your best estimate? I'm guessing that the question/answer pair has to be pretty awesome and the deletion was just do fast that no one had a change to vote on it. Even if the answer is awesome, if the question is just "urgh", then perhaps the moderator will go "declined - flags should only be used to make moderators aware of content that requires their intervention" :)

@Scratte The system doesn't permit the question author to delete a question if the question has more than one non-deleted answer or any answer with an upvote (probably also has to be non-deleted, but I haven't seen that stated). My expectation would be that the flag should only be declined if the question was one which shouldn't have been answered (i.e. it should have been closed), or if the answer was obviously one which was likely to only receive downvotes. But, that's just my expectation.

@Makyen I wasn't aware of the two answers rule for deletion. I expect votes on those are not considered in the ability to self-delete a Question then? But my scenario was a Question where the author just waits until there's an answer on it and immediately deletes the Question. Surely it's sort of just gaming the system.

@Scratte Yes, votes on the multiple answers are not considered. Deleting a question after it's been answered is considered to be quite rude and self-centered. The point of Stack Exchange is to collect a body of questions and answers which are helpful to future visitors. Users who delete questions immediately after they are answered are considered to be doing something that's opposed to that goal, and to have intentionally wasted the time of the answerer, and probably many other people.

@Scratte If it is a pattern, it's unlikely to be seen by normal users, unless the user posts questions in the same/similar tags relatively rapidly, or has a quite noticeable username or question style.

@Makyen ..and if they have a habit of doing it, they'll have no other Questions. Until they get a Question ban and create a new account.

That is actually quite common in PHP world. Here is the answer... and at the end Do not use this.

@halfer I'm sure you meant it, but it's probably one of the fundamental differences between Stack Exchange and other places, so it really should be emphasized. I consider it quite likely that the primary reason that SO has a reputation of being unwelcoming is that people take downvotes and closure personally.

While it is difficult to get people who received downvotes, or have their question closed, to understand that it's not personal, it's something that should be explained to them in crystal clear terms, very prominently, the first few times they get that type of response.

Don't get me wrong, there are comments made which are rude/abusive/unwelcoming, and it's good that such have been reduced (and continue to be worked on), but such comments are, and probably always have been, far less common than the prevalence of people feeling that SO is "unwelcoming".

People are not used to getting feedback in their lives.

@Makyen The thing is that making oneself understandable in words and in writing is a learned skill. I think it takes more than 10 posts to get it right, if one doesn't have at least some of it be begin with. So it's likely the same users that get their Questions closed and their content downvoted (not that that doesn't happen to skilled writers too). This probably makes it feel even more like SO is being harsh and unwelcoming.

It's not about the writing skill. It's about what the question is. We can edit it to make it better, but we can't answer it if it is unclear, lacks the code or is off-topic. Even if the question is written really well there's no way to know if it will be popular.

You're right that writing skill isn't strictly necessary. Maybe I'm confusing it with trying to understand what needs to be included for others to understand it too. So I don't really mean novel-writing skills, I mean make-myself-understandable writing skills :)
