Overwriting dll files in C++ or C# games isn't modding, it's hacking

And modding in MC is done by overwriting jar files

So basically hacking the dlls.

at the tech level yes, but most modders use the Forge API, which has been explicitly granted permission by mojang to do it

So I don't do any overwriting myself

possible because among other things they get the unobfuscated source code from mojang
