I was trying to get a clean Windows installation on my hard drive, but am running into some issues. I get to the part where I need to select which hard drive I want to install Windows on. I have 2 harddrives, but both give this error: We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing ...

download ubuntu, burn to disc, boot from live CD, format and partition, install windows.

if you have access to another computer, you can also put the harddrive in that one as a slave and see if it is detected

it is always surprising to me when grub can make more sense of a windows partition than mbr

theres supposed to be a dos command to clean up the mbr, but i dont suppose its possible to get a copy of dos to do it with :p

The windows 8+ flavor of grub seems to do a pretty good job with multiple partitions.

But yeah, it took me a while to figure out what to do the first time MBR broke.
