Still IMO, it's not that hard to invent. But it is nice git programmers put the effort to make it intelligent and user-friendly.

Even if you deleted N folders and created M new ones, they are just nodes. And you do know what the contents were and are. If of some significant portion of the contents are the same you can probably assume it is the same one and diff it. They don't have to be on the same level. Unless you mess up structure very badly it's not that hard IMO.

@Crow computer screen pixels are always full opacity at hardware. SOMEWHERE in the graphics driver there has to be a "back" color with full opacity. Then when the graphics wants to put a half-transparent pixel over that it, it merges the color that was already there with the "transparent" one.

@MooingDuck Most graphics hardware has a blending stage that handles opacity in the hardware. It's normally near the end of the pipeline, so you can do all the other processing to generate pixels of various colors, then blend them together just before they're sent to the screen.

In all fairness, I haven't had the most unbiased experience with Eclipse. The first year I had to use it, it was an ancient version that crashed if you tried to rename, delete or move a file. The second year I had to use it, they upgraded...to a version that was still obsolete. The third year I had to use it, they actually downgraded - apparently because they were scared of the "new" feature of being able to export runnable .jar files.
