Noun 1. dangling - the act of suspending something (hanging it from above so it moves freely)

so if the pointed-to resource is suspended (goes out of scope), the pointer would be dangling

Actually I think it would be appropriate because the term is "dangling" not "dangled", where the latter implies an explicit activity (i.e. the indirect object being destroyed).
