simply put ++i increments your variable before you use it and i++ increments after.

Since it's almost exclusively full of questions about your language, and specifically something that my gut tells me is horribly bad practice (although I don't know enough to be certain), can you guys please tell me if you think the self-destruction tag is worth keeping?

@DaveRandom There's nothing wrong with the tag, although having 26 questions on the subject (and no doubt dozens more that aren't tagged) seems stupid. There should be one FAQ question answering this and the rest be closed as dupes.

FWIW, bounties render the question immune to closings. (except by mods)

In general I would say that language agnostic tags with 26 questions since the dawn of time should be burninated, could we create a more C++ specific tag about delete this? The problem is newbies may come along and tag a question with just self-destruction and no-one will ever see it.

How would that solve anything?

@DaveRandom But delete this is no more a distinct language feature in C++ than "functions with names starting with p" are. A tag for that makes no sense whatsoever. But apparently, 26 people saw the self-destruction tag as useful or relevant. Shouldn't that count for something? I can understand deleting the tag entirely (although it seems deeply unnecessary and possibly counterproductive), but trying to retag the C++-centric subset of the questions is just weird.

use string s1("test\0test", 4+1+4);

@jalf I'm not too fixated on that element of it, I just want to burninate the tag. I only suggested that as a way to keep questions on that relatively narrow subject together, if you thought it was worthwhile keeping them together because it was a complex subject (I don't know enough about it to make that judgement).

I have to say though, it sounds like horribly bad practice - having objects free up their own memory internally? Sounds like a recipe for dangling external pointers and probably a route to memory leaks.

And when I switch computers, a full recompile has to happen.
