Is there a way to have a writable instance variable that throws an exception if it hasn't been initialized? I'm parsing some stuff, and I have to merge two objects. Neither of those objects are valid on their own, but one is a more complete object, so I'm just copying some of the data from the secondary to the primary, but I want an exception to be thrown if I try to access the data on the primary before it's been loaded.

That way I can trace down which record isn't being accessed.

My thought is to do something like this, but then there's not a good way of setting it from the secondary.

A has 99% of the data I need, but B has two fields that I need. So, I parse A and then parse B and link the data together.

If I can't get those two fields from B for a given record, there's no point in continuing.

Then I run into the issue from the other end. :P I don't know what the complete set of records I need are until I've parsed A.

These are fixed length files of government data, so it's exactly as screwy and terrible as it sounds to parse it.
