I think that I am misreading this question because this seems really easy, in python at least... Write a client that creates a symbol table mapping letter grades to numerical scores, as in the table below, then reads from standard input a list of letter grades and computes and prints the GPA (the average of the numbers corresponding to the grades).

hm question, does pseudocode essentially permit you to use tools of a language? Ie, if I wanted to use a python dictionary or JSON type of structure, would that be considered acceptable to use?
@Crowz: that depends on the course, I guess. But there are a few things you could look at: dictionary and user_input are bad variable names; you define classes_taken but never use it; you call str on user_input and grades when they're both already strings; you use .split(" "), which works, but is less general than .split() because it'll get tripped up on multiple spaces. You could also use a genexp instead of the total += loop, but that's more personal preference than anything.

because I tried doing os.listdir('../var/csv/') and got this error: OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '../var/csv/', then used an absolute path to the same directory and it worked fine
