@JonClements I learned a lot in that class. We had to build gomoku solvers and compete against other students in a tournament. I also learned not to host my code publicly on github before turning in an assignment. Someone in the class found my code, stripped my comments, and submitted it as their own!

I had to show the commit log to my professor so he could verify that the code was mine. At least having version control saved my academic record

@JAL when I was leading a small team (only about 50) - I use to make sure the junior programmers got tasks that I knew they wouldn't be able to complete - so they'd learn and I could see how they get on with them

(ie: do they struggle on and bite their tongue, or do they ask for help, do they come with research etc...)

For my pet-projects, I'm using less and less GitHub but prefer BitBucket: it is free and private

@JAL I know one young programmer - I could tell he was remarkably talented... so I just gave him a project and see how he'd react - I did it the same evening to make sure it'd go through and the company I was working for at the time didn't get into hassle...

@JAL Ouch. There were 1-2 plagiarizers in my classes, but they were essentially walked off the plank by our professors and had to drop the major

He sat on it for about two days - no communication - although I can see he was doing his best - I knew that

So when the job was due, I asked if it was ready - he "came clean" - panicked somewhat... explained why... I explained that programming isn't just about the code it's about the work required that you're doing it for and that communication is key... and that I'd already sent the job out anyway :p

@Tiny Here's what I'd like, for my pathological use case. I want to be able to open X pages of NATO posts at one time. I often open all 25 as quickly as I can, but since that involves scrolling to the bottom of every second page it's a PITA.
