@Catija Is it that bad? There are some other active SE sites... Like English, Unix/Linux, SoftwareEngineering, Ubuntu, Apple... I didn't want to sell those guys short.
And... being IPS made them all complicated. We'd have backlogs... only 80 or so but it was hard to get in the mood to handle them when it was that bad. 800 is... scary.
This was discussed in here earlier. I reviewed the comments, and I don't think any of them were out of hand. The comments on that nomination are actually all publicly visible still. About half of them are encouraging; the other half are critical, but not in a disrespectful or otherwise problematic way.
@CodyGray Maybe I cherry picked some and found them a bit odd, "Sorry, almost all "newcomer" questions are unsalvageable garbage. Civility is certainly my goal. "Welcoming" newcomers is something the corporation wants to do, not me." being one of them heh
@rene Why would you expect not to get much feedback, though? Like... regular posts on SO get quite a bit of feedback, so obviously a nomination for moderator would get even more, right?
@Tschallacka if it helps - I appreciate you nominating and I like your frank tone in the questionnaire... (although I'll take your LotR reference and raise you a Dr Who :p)
@CodyGray Is there a reason why Elections posts aren't behaving like normal SO posts? With that I mean as a experienced SO user we get to see deleted answers to posts. How come we can't see deleted nominee's?
@Torxed Technically, the nomination posts aren't deleted. They are retracted. But yes, the nomination page behaves very differently from normal SO posts. Even moderators can't see a list of retracted nominations.
@CodyGray I see, feels a bit strange and odd. Would be nice to be able to follow up on events without being able to interact with said events. But I guess there's a reason for everything.
@Torxed Yes, it is a bit strange, and unfortunate. I suspect it just wasn't ever built, and since elections don't come along all that often, isn't a high priority to improve.
You'll also see that you can't flag comments under election nomination posts. This is very annoying to moderators, and everyone else, because there are often things that need to be flagged.
@Torxed I think the helpful thing to remember here is that election pages are somewhat kludged together from Q&A pages but it's not great. Hopefully, by the next election we'll have the new system built and it'll be better for everyone.
Replaced "s***" with "oh" heh. As a non native speaker, I find it funny how people get obsessed by words and their meaning. I put very little in them and find them more of a tool to emphasis emotions than anything. But rules are rules :)
I wouldn't normally bother in other rooms - heck, I'm sure I've used certain words occasionally, but since this is a very public room and as close as it gets to an "official" SO room - no doubt covering all sorts of people - it's just best to err on the side of caution...
@JonClements I feel you. With that said, I'll head out as I'm not to careful around the wording as I am with trying to convey a point, and thus I'll avoid everyone the bother and trouble of correcting me all to often :) Thanks for the info and have a great day! :)
@CodyGray I think the intent of the message yesterday about Monica was the worry that for any future moderators, that they may be kicked out without reasonable cause. Seemed like ex post facto law to me, which is totally unfair. At the very least it's the intent of this message here. I hope that SO will reform and never do that again.
@Userthatisnotauser I'm not sure what exactly you're referring to. What "the message" do you mean? At any rate, yes, there's always a concern about that. I certainly have that concern. I hope it won't happen again, too. But at the end of the day, there isn't anything I can do about it, really.
Yeah. That'd make it a lot simpler. It'd also be cool to have a way to answer each question individually and then let viewers sort by question or by candidate.
@wizzwizz4 He didn't seem terribly committed. We often have people who run and are of the mindset of "Hey I can do this!", only to be asked "Well, why haven't you been doing it already?"
Protip: If you have enough rep to run, you can already moderate SO. No election needed.
2019 also had a lot of amazing candidates that didn't get elected, I guess our standards for nominees are fairly high now. I truly hope to see some of them back this year though
@ErikA Lots of good candidates in the previous (2018) election, too. You have to go all the way back to 2017 before you start scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I tried to ping ' ' using "@ " but ' ' got the message instead; then ' ' pinged me back to complain that ' ' was on their case about ' ' being pinged instead of ' '. In the end, it turned out it was all ' 's' fault for not asking ' ' about how to write a ' '.

I just wanted to give my response to the suggestion that I wasn't committed enough.
Going through the nomination process was in a way quite useful (at least to me). You're setting the bar quite high and it's testament to your own commitment to protect and nurture the community.
I decided to withdraw as it became evident that my lack of experience was a concern and I understand that. I'll take the feedback onboard and will step by step get to the point where my actions will speak for themselves.
@customcommander I hope you didn't take that as a dig (I did not mean it that way), but you're also not the first to try and run, only to lack any experience.
Take some time and do some non-diamond moderation. Learn the ropes. Try again. I know someone who did just that
@customcommander I think it's great you gave it a go, but upon listening to feedback, did a little introspection and decided that right now it wouldn't be best for you and possibly the community, and will work towards improving that in the future... That's a great trait to have as a moderator... here's to the future! :)
