Hi guys, has anyone got any experience with writing HTML5 games? I'm looking into how to setup my game loop, so I've looked at setInterval, setTimeout and requestAnimationFrame. It looks like requestAnimationFrame is the way to go but I'm wondering whether I want to put both my update() and draw() functions in there or just the draw() function?

really, it depends on how your updates are run

this will force update on each draw. if you need slower or more controlled updates then I would still use requestAnimFrame but surround the updates in a timed check

XNA just did update(); draw(); in the same call but that was straight to the CPU (sort of...) but this is browsers we're talking about

however most games will not be playable at low FPS - and with a small delta time calculation you can do it all in the one animation loop

I agree it's not perfect, but I don't see any serious repercussions.

Update too, shouldn't be one function, some calculations are reactive Nd need to be performed often (hitting a wall) and some are proactive like the AI figuring out what to do
