from my experience, no on-track bail is more dangerous than off-track

I have a script that uploads changed files to a server, and I'm using `git merge-base --fork-point <branch>` to get the changes, but I was just typing in the branch manually... thought there'd be a way to get that automatically

Do you mean the actual fork point in the commit tree, or a reference to the head that was checked out when you branched?

I have a repository with branches master and A and lots of merge activity between the two. How can I find the commit in my repository when branch A was created based on master? My repository basically looks like this: -- X -- A -- B -- C -- D -- F (master) \ / \ / ...

I'm guessing from merge-base that you need the former to find the latter

Then some ruby to stick the different files on the server

There's 2260 source files just sitting in the root directory of the project, and when we work on a ticket, we just move the ones we change to the server under the ticket number, and they test it out of that and merge it manually.

So "pulling" is just copying down the latest beta code and branching off of it whenever I'm working on a new ticket

I can't keep track of which of those 2260 files I change during a ticket, so in comes git
