@mcmwhfy you not have a normal table, so you have use other method.

From `$(this).parent()` you have to get index of element `<span class='cell'></span>` (are childrens) clicked by user . [use a loop]

The answer is trivial:
SELECT count(*) > 5 FROM tbl;
But here is a not so trivial hint: If the table might be huge (and you don't know it), the above query might take a while. To be safe:
SELECT count(*) > 5 FROM (SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 6);
