Go is great, would recommend, I write a lot of Go, am still employed

go's a great, powerful language, it can be a bit slower to develop compared to node/js just because the tooling/packages aren't as robust but it's great for high performance servers

We did hire more people to take over my day to day coding though, but I'm still involved for newer projects to get them off the ground

I think the tooling works out just fine once you get used to it - there's a bit of a mindset switch when coming over from pip/npm or even maven, but once you get the hang of it it is rock solid

Beside the docs

the Go tour is pretty much all you need to get started, after that its just a matter of learning how to pick the right architecture and structure for your project, which you should be able to build up over time

Go's surface is really small, the majority of the benefits come in picking the right approach to the problem

It does require a bit of a new line of thinking than your typical object oriented design or "everything is everything" approach of JS/python

but once you cross that bridge, you can move really fast

@JAAD I have not used whatsapp so I'm not sure. Have you checked to see if it is restarted? iPhone's I'm fairly certain have an API/app that handles notifications separate from the actual app. Frankly Android shouldn't have to start the app up every time to simply display a notification. Maybe they should have a separate public static void main(String[] args){} or something somewhere in the apk not really sure.

That's some general feedback on conventions and structure

The Problem With Dick...

The approach in general was pretty sane (there's a few different ways to copy files, but io.Copy is fine for any reasonably sized files - it will get slow for huge ones)

Just mostly a structure, error handling, variable conventions, and using the stdlib more when you can (using the mode definitions in fileinfo directly instead of wrapping them in your own, using the filepath package to deal with filepath parsing/modification instead of doing string concatenations, etc)

Android has restricted background apps. Also most importantly, Android phone manufacturers with their own ROMs restrict it even more. There's also wake-locks related to Android notification IIRC
