Q: Messenger(FB) app that does not run in background

On Windows Phone and iOS messaging apps(like Facebook Messenger) simply use push notifications. Is there an option only to only enable push notifications for FB messenger on Android? Right now it continues to run in the background draining battery.

I can still develop for android phones that are 8 years old

my friends that have iOS phones upgrade every 1-2 years out of necessity

I can still target the earliest versions of android if I really wanted to, we only upgrade our minimum target due to dependencies we want to use and low market share

it's up to our discretion as developers who we want to support

in contrast to develop and support the latest iOS versions I have to drop support for older iOS versions

Q: All Notification Tray Items Dismissed When Opening App

So on my iPhone the notification tray items disappear when I have viewed the message inside the actual application. Windows Phone works the same way. While all notification tray items for that app disappear when I open that application. I do not like that all my notifications have disappeared....
