external HDDs die most easily due to mechanical issues, and one that is not fixed permanently to the inside of your case tends to move around more (in as bag, drawer, pocket, etc).

More movement, more shocks, more death

External SSDs last about as long as internal ones

Yeah, if you just tape it down , then it'll likely be fine

Also, depending on the drive, you may be able to open it up and just pull out a regular SATA drive

Maybe external drives are just an internal drive + adapter in a nice case

But Google the model number before you do that, more and more of them are coming with adapters built into the base board so you can't actually get a usable SATA connection without replacing the board

@RaghavSood This is what I did, its a SATA with an adapter. I took the adapter off and plugged direct into SATA.

@Tim The thing is that both latitude and longitude most of the time change abruptly, causing irregular distance calculation, hence generating garbage speed data

Should be pretty easy to filter that out tho, just check if the new location is feasibly reachable from the n old ones based on their respective speeds

For instance, if you jump 5km from the previous location in 3s but were only moving at 60kmph, you can be pretty sure it is wrong

If you compare to more than one previous location, you can get better accuracy

The idea of using multiple previous ones is to help when your first received location is wrong - if you only consider a single one, then if the first location is wrong you may end up discarding all the others

You can refine this based on what your app is used for tho

If it is a app that shows shopping mall stores or whatever, you can use a simple clustering instead

If you need actual movement freedom, then probably something speed based makes the most sense
