I thought that Kotlin had eliminated the NPE problem, but I can recreate it with lateinit :-/

that would mean your invariant is wrong

yeah lateinit means "I'm saying this won't be null because I won't access it until I've assigned it" but if you access it to early that's your fault. Make your field nullable or you've got a bug elswhere

Like something you might assign a value to in oncreate of your fragment, you know it won't be null but it's not assigned until oncreate is called. That's a good use case for lateinit

it's the equivalent of Swift's implicitly unwrapped optional. inherently unsafe to use, but useful when working around some strict initialization rules.

So it's not hard to get a house on that kind of salary

tbh I'm actually against minimum password complexities unless it's an important site

for bank/email/etc I'll use a password manager

for some random app/website I just use my generic shared password

what rules do you set for your regular pwd? just a minimal length?

I let other people build the auth systems so I can safely git blame when we get hacked

@AdamMc331 you ought to use emptyList() instead of ArrayList() because the former is a method which won't create unnecessary objects

and the latter is same as new …() in Java, that is, it does more, unless JIT will act really smart (and it most likely won't)

this is because if a collection is empty and immutable (can't add to it in-place), there's no need to create a new instance

in a one-shot code path this won't matter though

Also, java has Collections.EMPTY_LIST that does the same thing, just remember you can't add anything to it

there's very little to "know" in kotlin if you already know java. AFAIK the only thing that's really dramatic is suspendable functions
