I grew up around similar folks, so you learn how to handle them. You mostly pose the request in a way he'll see it still being in the superior position. Most of them wear pistols on them or knives, if you have to interact, you handle them like with care.

Worst is the kids who get a hold of those, I have no idea how they get them, but they do. One got pinched a few years back by taking photos of himself with a gun on Facebook.

Few stabbings here past year, one murder (execution basically) and some kid got shot through his shoulder in the crossfire.
