@RadekdaknokSlupik there are front ends you can get, so you can use a local <what ever> repo. But I would still need to deal with clear case. I also have to deal with the fact that 'mastership' is off site, so I can't directly work on the main branch, or even merge to it. It's utter crap the way I am working with source control

@thecoshman Not really, my divison doesn't have any department there. They do have a bell labs center there (pure research), but that's as far as my knowledge goes.
@thecoshman well, if you do that, google the division you're applying for. Alcalu is restructuring heavily at the moment (as almost any company in telecom) and some departments have a better future than others.
Meh. I have excellent wifi quality, and yet this chat loads so slowly, it took 3mins just to show me the starboard. That's because the excellent wifi connection is to my phone, which lies on the table right beside my laptop. And my phone has long since used up my flatrate's allowance for this month, and is now down to GRPS. :(
On the bright side, I'm sitting in my garden and I do have Internet.

@thecoshman No. It's supposed three nice days, and I packed the kids and took all the stuff (or was it the other way 'round?) and we went to stay out here for Whitsun.
@thecoshman Well, I put them to bed now, and it took only 20mins to become quiet, so it certainly feels like I packed them into some UStore locker. (I deliberately put them to bed 2.5hrs late, so that this would happen. They are basically sleeping in the same room I sit in, so I needed to have them really tired, or it would have driven all of us mad.)
@thecoshman I told you the kids are fast asleep already. And I'm not fearing heat, actually. It's supposed to drop to 9°C over night, and this garden house is small and not insulated in any way. I actually packed the down beds for us.
@Jeremy Design patterns are, as their name says, about design, not about implementation. Therefore they are, mostly, language independent. If you want to learn something about pattern, the GoF book is a good one to start. Beware, though, most literature on patterns is old, and most regulars here almost despise them.
@FredOverflow Design patterns are only overrated because incapable Java programmers have nothing else to guide them in their coding. They are overrated in the same way (and for the same reasons) OO is overrated. They are still a very useful tool, though, where they (really) are applicable.
@Jeremy patterns are a 'set' way of solving a common problem. These problems, and thus the patterns, are not tied to any one language. The problem with patterns, is that people can get fixated with them, and try to shoe who them into projects when a simpler solution could have been used. They are still a valuable tool to have in your kit
@jalf I'm not sure it's a complete waste of time. Yes, patterns are overused, but so is, erm, inheritance. You wouldn't throw out inheritance just because many people overuse it, would you?
Think of design patterns like joints a carpenter might know. For the most part, they will use set few joints, occasionally they might need to find a new joint for an odd task. Other times, a carpenter might just need to wing it, and go for something unlike anything else
@sbi does have the slight floor in that some one could take it to mean you should stick to patterns when ever you can. Still, feel free to use it your self, I am sure you can phrase it better then me
