@JohnDotHR ok I learned a few things. 1. if you want to use CSS :hover attribute. it has to be contained in a link element <a></a>, the image should probably be fixed to the top left with position: absolute; left: 0; top: 0. You can force the text to be vertically centered by putting its line-height equal to the box height (but works just for one line)

@JohnDotHR if you want to use jquery just put everything with a particular class and use .hover and .toggleClass

so to use hover you can make an area the same size as the image inside of a a element with the overlay nested inside and then use display: none in default state and display:block to display
