@Zoidberg question, with your byte based IO streams, how would you say, implement getline. Read chunks until you find delimiter, then un-read the rest, or put the rest in some buffer if using a buffered stream, or what?

If you want it buffered, pass it a buffered stream, which will automatically read many bytes at once.

It's likely you'll add the buffering decorator early on, since you almost never want to do buffering only for one operation.

and the smaller cars' engines don't have enough torque to drive the 6th gear overdrive

even on big SUVs if you press hard on the accelerator it will sound big.

the point is with the powerful engines they have you don't need to press hard all that often

they are silent because of the 2-phase camshafts and stuff that essentially makes the whole engine work like it had 1/4 of volume when on lower revs

For example in my dad's VW the turbine doesn't even spin at all at cruise speed

Imagine someone whos played MTGO for years, who comes in to HS. Chances are hes going to have a pretty strong basis even though hes "new" to the game. He'll have the same amount of cards as everybody else but hes going to wreck all of them

And if he doesnt buy any new cards hes going to keep dominating because he'll keep getting matched against the same ppl

For ranked, see above, for unranked, you could go with a combo of what you said above but i still dont think it totally solves the problem. in fact unranked play in sc2 has the same issues while the ranked play of sc2 has (imo) none of the ones hs exhibits

The thing I noticed with HS is that you often ping pong betwen 4-5 ranks once youve reached the level at which you are in the ladder, but thats frustrating because when you go back down you often lose many games in a row which ive always found more frustrating than the satisfaction i get from winning the same amount of games.

In constrast in sc where the ladder has more granularity, when you reach your target level you have a 50% win rate or so, and so the loss streaks happen rarely
