Boost is just too big for log4cplus.

I have previously successfully used Boost.IOStreams in an application where I could just import whole Boost source tree into Subversion.

But I do not want to do that with log4cplus. Not do I want to depend on it as a separate requirement.

I don't get the obsession of adding formatting into an I/O stream library. It's a completely different level of abstraction that you should build on top of an I/O stream library.

Readers have a single method char* read(char* begin, char* end) that fill the given range and return a pointer to the one-past-the-last-filled char.

These aren't very convenient to use but they are incredibly easy to implement, which is much more important because you can build convenient interfaces on top of the simple concepts.
