I have a drawable bg for state_selected=false which works, but all the others don't seem to do anything

they may not implement all the drawable states

i've had cases where selected was the only one honored, forget where though

you might need to add a custom listener to set the drawable

check the blame for any databinding refactoring

Well I migrated to androidx, and many of the views changed, but only one file was importing a class that had to change to androidx. So, I could try refactoring that file slightly and maybe it would work, but idk if it would. :/

systematically remove databinding via comments until you find the offending file
