Another thing I have observed: if you can't come up with a descriptive name for a value, that might be an indication that you shouldn't be assigning it to a name at all.

Very bad example:

some_name = complicated_expression_goes_here
what_should_i_call_this = g(some_name)
result = h(what_should_i_call_this)

Might be better as

some_name = complicated_expression_goes_here
result = h(g(some_name))

I'm still working through my own anxieties about not having a safety net. Most recently, what's working best for me is an attitude of "so be it". You can reuse it over and over again without rewriting anything. And if they say they don't know what a cooking recipe is , well then...... I ask them to explain to me how to do something step by step, and tell them to write it down and call that a function

I used Ableton for a little while

surprisingly for the level of recording I do, I actually found that Garage Band started serving me well when I moved to a Mac

I do have to say though, that I really really miss Guitar Rig

I had that on my Windows machine
