But do it the simple way. Change it later if all else fails.

In general, adding columns to a table shouldn't significantly impact the performance of queries that don't involve those columns or related indexes.

@corvid In the US, there's a big difference, and you need to know about it as a contractor or you'll get taken advantage of. Not necessarily maliciously either. I had to resolve an error a few years ago related to this; fortunately it was a summer job with only a small sum of money involved.
