Also is the phrase "Is it really that hard to XXX" considered hostile? Like if someone commented "Is it really that hard to copy/paste code into the question instead of uploading an image" would that be considered unfriendly or condescending?

@CPlus if the question is really specifically about why the script is there, then it's off topic. But as "what does this code do?" (or worse, both at once) it needs more focus

especially since there is all sorts of template text for communicating that point already

phrasing like that conveys a frustration, which the writer should deal with before engaging

It sometimes happens to me where I come across a question in Close votes that is obviously an audit but the question is a poorly formatted error dump complete with images of text and all. So I am like, 'Surely this should be closed.' But I fail the audit because the question, inexplicably, got upvoted.

Is this answer an egregious enough copy of this answer that I should flag it as plagiarized? There's a slight difference in punctuation.

@dbc Yes, I recommend that you do so. I might add, that the original answer isn't all that great to begin with, and so the plagiarizer is doubly at fault for a) plagiarizing, and b) using a so-so source.

@Chris Some tags have a group behavior all their own, and perhaps r is one of these.

@HovercraftFullOfEels I think Collectives are partly to blame... they've sent the message that standard rules don't apply. All kinds of junk gets voted up in Collective-linked tags.

@Chris Hmm. Short, sarcastic answer: Collectives™. More considered, provocative answer: What's wrong with it? It's closed as "Needs debugging details" but it isn't a debugging question. It's a "How to?" question and - though not in my field - seems like it's perfectly clear what's being asked.

Maybe people liked the answer(s). When I see a really nice answer, I upvote it. Which is the way things are supposed to work. Also, when I see such an answer, I'll most often upvote the question that prompted it.

@AdrianMole Perhaps the mouseover text on the triangular upvoting button next to questions should be edited to append "this question provoked a useful answer" (and the inverse for the downvote button)?

I've seen hugely upvoted questions containing no effort at all. stackoverflow.com/q/2348205/2943403 I presume because it spawned one or more helpful answers.

I mean if someone else asked a question which serves up the answer you need, then it saved you time. That's helpful. BUT this directly counteracts the growth trajectory of trying to gather higher quality questions.

@mickmackusa Frankly, those are the kinds of questions I think should be community wiki. FAQ questions containing no effort. But, the mods disagree.

@Chris I gave it an upvote too. It looks like a pretty good question. It might be a duplicate and maybe a little too broad, but I am not an SME.
