There's a bunch of clutch like discs all with holes in them all on the same shaft with a silicone fluid running between them, when enough force is applied that the silicone wants to act like a solid (like corn starch + water) it locks the discs together because they aren't able to shear the fluid anymore

@Jhawins ya, and when I wasn't riding an AGV, I was using a golf cart to get around. oh ya, I used a bubble sort to calibrate the AGV's (they had to reach up 40' into the air, so any irregularity in the floor and you'd be off a foot or so)
