So at HackUMass I started talking to some people who are developing a startup, they already have most of it done, investors, etc. They're working on developing an Android application and basically offered me an unpaid internship. During our last government election in the state, I had moved and went to vote at my new location but they claimed that I also had to renew my voter's id when I moved so basically I had to go vote in my old city but the polls were so close to closed that I never got to vote. :|

My point was, anyone who is eligible to vote (regardless of the requirements) should have been able to vote. To run out of supplies and in turn preventing eligible voters from casting a vote is just crazy.

I don't understand why we (in the US) have a separate process for registering to vote. I'm not aware of anything that restricts people from being able to vote, other than being under 18. But if that's literally the only requirement, why not just check for a valid state-issued picture ID at the polls?

warren - we don't have a concept of "Einwohnermeldeamt" here, when you move you don't register that you've moved... so elections canada has no idea where you live now until you file taxes at the end of the year and they can update your address.. your driver's license is on a state level, not a federal level, and apparently they can't share information for privacy reasons?

You can have a driver's license, for example, without being elligble to vote - like you don't have your permanent residency card, you're still on a work/visitor visa - but a driver's license is a legal ID to prove your identity when you vote

so just having a DL doesn't mean you're eligible to vote
