I am thinking I would have to have it create a database entry with a key and send that key with the request, and then have the recieving page check to make sure the key matches. That seems overkill to me, though.

well tbh it doesn't matter that much, it's unlikely to cause a serious conflict, the conflict would be resolved the next time the cronjob kicks in and there's no existing indexing, and the worst that can happen is that it burns the CPU a bit and one will overwrite the other
