My git-fu is lacking, so perhaps someone can suggest something here. I have a git repo at ./project1. I'd like to clone a different remote repo into ./project1/project2. I'd like to have the parent repo track the history of the child (as though nothing funny was going on), but still be able to pull upstream changes of the child into ./project1/project2. I will not be pushing changes to the child's remote.
