@RobertAtkins Well, I've added my two cents worth. I really do hope it doesn't fall into the "correct and utterly unhelpful" category (though I'll admit I hope even more strongly that it doesn't fall into the "incorrect and unhelpful" category).

a function has no potentially mutating operations except assignment anyway so the distinction between being const and not is mostly in the type system rather than practical anyway.
