Meanwhile,back at chez Martin, the mobo blew up on my development box. I moved my drives/backups to our TV server - a 2 core AMD box with a massive 4G RAM. The video card promptly died, forcing me to use the integrated graphics and so sucking the life out of what little RAM there is.

I'm thoroughy pissed off with all hardware ATM:(

No, but I did try transplanting the good graphics card from my dev box. The power supply gave up, but recovered when I removed the card.

When someone says "You can't do X because of Y." does that mean Y results in you not being able to do X or does that mean that possibly you can do X, but the reason you can do it is not Y but possibly something else?

I sometimes refer to end-of-scope cleanup as "stack unwinding" for lack of a better term.

Even though memory might indeed only be returned at the end of the function.
