@LightnessRacesinOrbit It certainly could contain more than 8 images. Just for example, one of the standard clipboard formats is CF_TIFF, which supports (obviously enough) TIFF. With a multi-image TIFF you can store a (more or less) arbitrary number of images at once.

@JerryCoffin OK. I'd say in the OP's terminology a multi-image TIFF is still one image file. But OK.

There are definitely way more formats than I realised, though.
