@FilipEkberg I think it was because of the sheer amount of traffic going to facebook. The sysadmin saw it and assumed we weren't doing any work. To his credit, productivity has definitely increased since.

You can just git add dir/*.c; it won't add unchanged files (since that doesn't make sense)

(It will add untracked *.c files though, if that's a problem)
