var result = query.GroupBy(q => q.Name).Select(groupByName => new
{
 Item = groupByName.FirstOrDefault().Relative.Prop + " " + groupByName.Key,
 ItemTypeGroup = groupByName.GroupBy(g => g.Relative.Description).Select( itemTypeGroup => new
  {
     GroupType = itemTypeGroup.Key
  }).ToList()
}).ToList()

I get the error on ItemTypeGroup = groupByName.GroupBy(g => g.Relative.Description)

any ideas?

Relative is null?

either groupByName is null or g.Relative is null

This is from an IQueryable if it wasn't obvious with query.

Is it okay to nest groupby like that?

list.groupby().groupby()?
