Anyway. If it was presented as "yes, this is positively discriminating to strongly correct for past biases," then fine -- the only problem I have is that it's being paraded under the banner of equality while the act of stating a gender-preference for mentors and excluding all straight-male participants. Most useful class I took in high school was typing :-) doubled my WPM and I use it every day.

In comparison, these days I write very few five paragraph persuasive essays about the symbolism in The Scarlet Letter.

e.g. they lead their own education, we as parents facilitate.

rather than direct and set the curriculum we let them decide what they want. Kids have a innate need to learn, and in my experience and research schools destroy that need rather than go with it.

However, I'll try not to bore everyone to death with the subject.

I had the option at GCSE level to take "Science" (1 qualification) or "Separate Sciences" (3 qualifications)

(I use the word "qualification" very loosely here)

so, I took separate, purely because it meant I could drop history, and also I hated biology (which would have accounted for a third of a single test), so I aced physics and chemistry and just ignored the biology classes.

Now... do I get a takeaway or actually start using some of the food in the fridge and cupboards

@TheSoundDefense Well to answer your question. Yes, they will learn things that they did not know. If they were not to learn anything from an argument what was the point of the argument or arguing at all?

@PsychOPhobiA worst case scenario, they argue to prevent themselves from learning or changing. They tend to be loud and angry and violent.

Arguments where both parties refuse to change their minds can still serve as a signaling exercise. Effectively both shouting "look how strongly I believe in this thing! Other members of my group should respect me!"
