If the phone is locked, pretty much all you can do is send push notification or listen to geolocation changes. That's it.

Well that's the difference between Android and iOS. Android will just let you do whatever you want.

There's nothing you can do to make something work when the phone's locked unless it's explicitly permitted.

In your case, access to the sensors you'd need isn't one of the permitted things.

Don't consider the android apps with iOS. In android you can do whatever you want like @EnricoSusatyo words. But, in iOS you're limited to do the stuffs which was provided by apple.

Emergency app in iOS is calling 911 and Siri, that's it I guess.

What is everyone's solution for keeping in sync with large binary files in a project where those files change often

Most folks I know use perforce for that sort of thing. It apparently handles binaries well-ish.

We are already using Git otherwise

For the small files. We separated the large files out into a separate repo because we didn't have any better ideas

Now I'm looking into rsync

I don't think we've ever in the history that I've been here reverted a change to an asset :p

you can't replace Default*.png in your application bundle before the application fully launches...

or at all, to be honest (thanks to code signing).

so you may have to get rid of your launch image totally

so the first image that is seen is the one you want.

when you submit an app to the app store, you have to use a provisioning profile and certificates.

that means when the app is downloaded from the store, any modifications to the app or anything inside the app would break the signature you signed it with.

and the app wouldn't run.
