Also, just for fun, after doing that you might want to just try using a constructor with params shown in the docs and pass them in that order ( I think Context, ResID, list). And strip out anything that isn't necessary to test. That will help narrow down your problem

well i took the dialog out of the holder, created the variables at a class scope, then in the fragment did cxt = getActivity(); and passed that cxt to the adapter, which uses it to create the dialog

so in eclipse it let me use a custom constructor for a fragment, which i was using to pass data. when i switched to AS it told me not to use a constructor and to use a bundle of args, so now if i click back, to go back to the previous fragment, the bundle has been lost

And I got shat on completely by the professor when he saw that, for non-unique systems, the matrix returned a number like 7.9999999999 instead of 8 due to floating point error. I forgot to handle floating point errors in my program when the number is not 0.00000001 (for example, like -2.9999999). So although the solutions were correct, I got shat on for having that. I was shocked and embarassed.

Needless to say I think hes a cool dude and thanked him for the opportunity.
