That was a stupid question. I blame the fact that I have been away. Nothing to do with that fact that I am stupid.

@DaveRandom I'm making a site that allows users to submit links to other sites and I foresee a bad case of link rot setting in. I plan on checking for 404 code and if it is there flagging original poster that their link is no longer available and to update if it they can, if they don't update it within say 48hrs then the link is wikified where any user with trust/rep will be able to update it themselves.

If no one does it within a week then post has link un-hyperlinked and is given an icon indicating link is dead. The link is still wikified so it can always be updated when someone decides to do so. Is this an alright setup?

@crypticツ Yes, but keep polling the link during the stale period, in case it was a temporary server issue with an erroneous error code. Also treat (at least) 401 and 403 in the same manner.

@cspray It was stupid because what I was really worried about was testability :-P I actually don't mind either of the obvious approaches to enums in PHP (namely classes with a "null" constructor or just an interface with constants) - obviously proper enums would be better but you works with what you gots

I've got kinda stuck in this mentallity that using :: means untestable code, which obviously is nonsense, although it's a good way to think for the general case

@cspray I know, for the specific use case the enum would contain only two members. It's not really a boolean but in the interests of simplicity I think I'll stick with an unnamed 1/0

I'm still debating with myself if they're even worth it in PHP because of the hackiness involved with getting them to work

I've seen a bunch, also to be honest I like Ruby better than PHP as a language (although I might have to reevaluate that with php 5.5's changes). However, that does not make it a 'web standard' in any way and it's a lot less common than PHP for example.

i think var_dump is running fine, it's really weird i have something like "select id, name ..." and var_dump prints the id but the name is null

@skripted OK well the whole concept of that function is a bit horrible but the code itself is right :-P What output are you seeing? (like how many rows) and what's the query? Whatever PDO is telling you it's not lying to you, so either your query isn't right in PHP or you're not connected to the right database

I'm struggling to come up with a sensible suggestion to that other than that your PDO_mysql install/build is a bit screwed. pMA doesn't use PDO, see if you get the same results with MySQLi? (I don't suggest actually using MySQLi, only for debugging)
