AVX512 doesn't exist in Microsoft's vocabulary. The only place it exists on a Microsoft-owned domain are on forums and feature requests from users to add support for it.

They got this problem that the current kernel support for AVX doesn't distinguish between different even AVX1 and AVX2 (unlike linux) which means that they have to push the whole stack, which I assume is going to be an even bigger performance problem when going to AVX512.

There's always a predisposition by certain families to be 'assholes'. Be it a cultural difference or a genetic one, idk which, it's just the way the chips fall for some people. Touching the related voltages didn't help either.

That AMD box (FX-8350) was a particular annoyance because the memory would go unstable the moment I take the CPU off of auto-stock settings.

@MarkGarcia It's easy to clock the memory up there. I can get my 4770K to run the memory at 2500 MHz+. But it isn't stable. I put it under my usual workload (which is not a normal workload) and it gets memory corruption.

I can leave my Pi program running overnight, and I wake up in the morning with 5 - 10 failures. Prime95 might drop only 1 or 2 cores.

And if I lower the memory speed from 1866 to 1600, the errors are still there, but less frequent.

@johnathon Prime95 is usually less stressful in terms of memory. Even for large FFTs.

I suspect the reason is that Prime95 doesn't touch all your memory. So it will catch the memory instability only if the memory it's using is actually mapped to the weak part of the DRAM or the relevant data lanes.

Whereas my program by default will use 92% of your available memory.

@sehe For a decent but reasonably inexpensive scope, there's nearly universal agreement that the best choice is the OneSky scope from Astronomers Without Borders. Unfortunately, they only ship to addresses in the US, but if you want one we could probably work something out where Mysticial or I orders one, then ships it to you, or something on that order.

Thanks again for the suggestion @JerryCoffin! We opted for the Skywatcher Heritage-130P, which appears to be very close. So, now we have to find time to get started :)

they will receive requirements, not tasks, and I have little control over their priorities and timelines
