There's always a problem with fighting back against an opponent who has much more firepower than you. It's kinda better to cool off, come to some peace agreement and hope hostilities can cease quickly.

Avoidable provocation just causes escalation and, sure enough, the room got nuked.

Mods have repeatedly stated on Meta that they just sort of ignore us and let the Lounge get away with lots of stuff that SO chatrooms shouldn't, because there are experts in it and they don't want to lose them.

That in itself is not a licence to just do whatever you like, and it does not mean that the policies you've been bending don't exist at all
