"there are two remotes" is also a bit false, you have to configure them yourself with git remote add upstream base_url and git remote add origin fork_url

after that, upstream is only ever used to update local master. generally one never merges on its own fork's master from a feature branch, only through PRs to upstream and merging back will changes be incorporated in own fork

but money is a bit tight because we are basically offering maintenance for free on Zinkn as part of the equity agreement until we use up the credited hours

They are being threatened by a much larger grilling company for violating a patent for technology they basically developed. They rushed to file a patent while we were developing cloud/server mode on the grills then claimed we were violating their patent

it got awarded recently, and now they have to pay a bunch of legal fees to contact the examiner and try and get it revoked

It probably won't hold up in court but the lawyer fees hurt GMG

it's one of those things that for us to be 100% in the clear it had to be in the public, having code in a prototype development form a full year earlier, legally, doesn't help us much

So we have to construct arguments that other people did it, or that what we had in the public was enough to be prior art

It's just the logic is silly, because We had a wifi controlled grill, that the app talked to server with announced plans for remote monitoring

but because someone filed a patent application before we released, we might be in trouble?

it doesn't make any sense

but neither does US patent laws

I think they're pissed we made them develop a wifi grill. They spent a ton of money on it, it's only available on their $1500 grills, and their app reviews are garbage
